These are some of our most Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a stray cat and a feral cat?

Stray cats are socialized to people and can be adopted into homes, but feral cats are not socialized to people and are happy living outdoors.

How do I help community cats

Providing food and water every day is one aspect of good animal care. Community cats should be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and ear tipped.

How do I get involved in TNR?

Contact Operation CatSnip or another cat rescue organization to get started.

How do you introduce a new cat/kitten to other cats and dogs?

Keep the new cat or kitten in a separate room with the door closed but let the other animals smell the newcomer under the door. Rub a cloth or towel on the new pet and the existing pets and let them become familiar with the smells. It sometimes helps to put a new kitten or cat in a carrier for a short period in a place where they can smell each other. Cats are individuals. Some may get along very quickly. It may take weeks, even months for others to become indifferent or friendly with each other. Patience is very important.

What about health issues?

Establish a relationship with a vet that you like and ensure that your pets receive routine check-ups as well as care with any illnesses or injuries.

Should I declaw my new cat?

Cats need their claws. Declawing a cat is both psychologically and physically harmful. Cats rely on their paws, including their nails, or claws, for behavioral and grooming needs. Their claws help them to protect and defend themselves. Cats scratch to remove dead nail sheathes, and to stretch and strengthen their muscles, among other things. Declawing cats is unnecessary and ineffective. Declawing, also known as onychectomy, is the surgical amputation of the last joints of a cat’s toes. Declawing is an elective surgery that can be traumatic and cause permanent damage and pain for cats.
